Shimoina’s ski parks offer enjoyable skiing and snowboarding in winter, and parks and observation decks in the “green season.” Come experience Japanese alpine exercise and living!
Heavens Sonohara is located in Achi Village and offers activities year-round. A ropeway from the ground station ascends 1,400 meters to the main lodge. In winter there is both skiing and snowboarding, and there are also snow trekking courses in the Iwana Forest and to the Fujimidai observation deck. “Fujimidai” means “deck to see Mount Fuji”, and there are also views of Mt Ena as well.
There is a Sonohara Kids World for the youngsters.
The ropeway is open year-round and outside of ski season, the ropeway opens out onto the Sky Walkway, a gentle walk through the natural surroundings to the observation deck. You can also take a light trek in the Iwana Forest to the “Pond of the Winds.” In spring and summer there are numerous flowers blooming, including red, white and pink peach blossoms.
Shirabiso Highlands is a plateau with stunning views over the Southern and Central Alps, including an observation deck with views of both nicknamed “Alps Observatory.” There are some great hiking trails, including the Shirabiso Pass, and it’s a popular stargazing spot.
